🦷🥤💧🔎 Investigating Teeth 🦷 🥤💧🔎

As part of our World Around Us theme, we have been learning about how to keep our teeth strong and healthy. We wondered what drinks are the best and worst for our teeth, so created a Fair Test Investigation to learn what effect different liquids have on our teeth. We thought that it wouldn’t be very sensible to use real teeth, so decided to use eggshells instead. An interesting fact we found out is that eggshells and teeth are very similar - in teeth, calcium is in the enamel to protect our teeth against the damage caused through eating and drinking, and in eggshells, calcium helps to create the strong shell that protects the egg from damage. 

 

In our investigation groups, we then chose and voted on the liquids we would like to test, and we then we planned the investigation in full, agreeing on what we would do to make it a fair test! We each predicted which liquid we thought would do the most damage, and then observed the changes really carefully each day. You might not be surprised to discover that both the Monster and Red Bull caused an incredible amount of damage. Our class have decided that we will only be drinking water from now on!
